Duluth, GA, in West Central Gwinnett County, offers a higher quality of life than most suburban cities of similar size. Duluth, Georgia, formerly known as Howell's Cross Roads, was chartered in 1876, incorporated in 1906 as the fourth city in Gwinnett County and named after the Minnesota City that honored French Captain and Explorer, Daniel Grey Sieur du Lhut.  More recently, it has been named among the best affordable suburbs in America by Businessweek, Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the city's commitment to the revitalization and management of the downtown and neighborhood commercial district, Best in the Region for Events and Creative Efforts by the Southeastern Festivals and Events Association among other accolades.   

The third largest city in Gwinnett County appeals to those who prefer the best of amenities in the spirit of good living.  Duluth offers a good mix of higher-end schools such as the New Life Academy of Excellence, the recently-opened, STEAM-certified Coleman Middle School and a variety of private schools.  There are multiple museums in Duluth, including the Southeastern Railway Museum, the state's official transportation museum and home to Pullman Cars, locomotives, cabooses and other train artifacts that contributed so deeply to the early growth of Gwinnett County.  The city's system of parks joins the nearby Chattahoochee River National Recreation Areas and Gwinnett County Parks, hosting athletic and other programs for the entire family.  Add in the community garden at the Duluth Historical Society and Museum, bike ways and sidewalks that connect all parts of the city, affluent and affordable housing options, healthcare at the Gwinnett Medical Center's Duluth Location, the free seasonal concerts, movies and other performances during Fridays-N-Duluth at the award-winning downtown district and it becomes clear that Duluth, Georgia has it all.


Duluth is Smart for Business


The city is accessible to other Metro Atlanta areas via by Interstate 85, Georgia Highway 400, Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and multiple mass transit options. The center of Atlanta is roughly 27 miles away while the distance to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is approximately 35 miles.
  • Opportunity Zones - Businesses locating to at the intersection of Interstate 85 and Pleasant Hill Road, the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District, just south of the city may qualify for a tax credit of $3500 per full time job.
  • Tax Allocation District - Certain expenses of businesses locating to that same intersection that support some projects with a substantial public benefit may be eligible for other financial assistance.
The accredited Duluth Police Department also leads the local Citizens Police Academy, safety classes and several other initiatives that help keep residents informed and safe while five weather sirens advise of dangerous weather conditions. Duluth is home to Gwinnett Medical Center, one of two premier Gwinnett County healthcare facilities and one of the largest county employers.
