Lawrenceville

Gwinnett Historic Courthouse
Lawrenceville, GA appeals to many interest and lifestyles as a modern, progressive city with rich historical charm, the oldest in Gwinnett County and second oldest in Metro Atlanta.

Lawrenceville, Georgia, the seat of Gwinnett County, holds the distinction as the oldest city in the county and second oldest in the entire Metro Atlanta area having been incorporated in 1821.  The city named after Captain James Lawrence, a naval commander of the Chesapeake Frigate in the war of 1812, showcases the rich history of Gwinnett County in museums, stores and restaurants housed in historical buildings along the streets around the city's charming downtown.  The centerpiece, the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse built in 1885, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as home to the Gwinnett Historical Society, Veteran's Memorial Museum, venue to social gatherings and a frequent backdrop in popular film (Fox's Sleepy Hollow), TV and movie scenes.

Rich in history, Lawrenceville is also a Main Street USA Community that is modern and progressive.  The Aurora Theatre in Downtown Lawrenceville stages a variety of national touring plays, performances, musicals, live music and comedy events for the entire family while eateries along the nearby square just past the newer parking deck, some with rooftop dining, serve up the finest in American and international cuisine, entertainment and more.  One block south of the square is the location of the new Lawrenceville Lawn with walking pad, play areas, seating and more.  As the first phase of what will be a stunning mixed-use downtown development, it is already the perfect venue for the Summer Concert Series, Broadway on the Lawn, free movies, fairs and other community events like the popular Rock'n the Ville BBQ and Kids Games known as Chill'n the Ville.

Lawrenceville, the Right Choice for the Busy Lifestyle

That vibrant Lawrenceville quality of life extends into city services, including public safety through an accredited, dedicated and involved police force, utilities and sanitation.  The non-profit Gwinnett Medical Center offers comprehensive and well-recognized healthcare options through the main facility here along with a network of affiliated providers.  One can even achieve educational goals at Georgia Gwinnett College, an accredited four-year institution of higher learning ranked among the highest in the southern region, Gwinnett Tech with over 140 associate degrees, continuing education and a recently announced 4-year degree in partnership with The Citadel, around two miles west of the city or the local Gwinnett County Public Library.  Georgia Highways 20, 120, 124, 316 and multiple transit stops are available for the approximate 33 miles trip into Central Atlanta while air travel is offered through carriers serving Briscoe Field just outside of the city.
